Moving Home System

What it is

A move goes wrong for a small number of predictable reasons: no fixed date, no ceiling on the spend, a quote read too quickly, boxes nobody can find. This system is built around those four. It is not a to-do list or a loose sheet: it is a workbook that calculates, with a guide, printables and a worked example.

How it works

Six phases, always in the same order and the same colour across the workbook, the guide and the printables: plan, budget, hire, pack, move and settle.

1. Fill in once the date, the size and your budget ceiling.
2. The 50 tasks date themselves, counted back from your moving day, and flag with a word (Overdue, Due soon, Scheduled, Done).
3. Compare companies with a method: price is scored automatically; you score insurance, reputation, availability, services and clarity, with the weights you choose.
4. Keep four numbers apart: estimate, budgeted, committed and paid, per category and against your ceiling.
5. Number every box and log it with its room, contents and opening priority; print labels with the same number.
6. On the day use the one-page command sheet; for the three days after, the first-72-hours list.

What makes it different

• Calculations are visible formulas, no macros: they behave the same in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets.
• Colour is never the only signal: every state also carries a word.
• Protected sheets: formulas cannot be deleted by accident.
• A worked example (a 78 m² flat with three quotes) so you can see the numbers working before you start.

What it is not

A planning aid. It does not give legal, tax or insurance advice, and it does not know your contracts or your local rules. It does not hire or pay anyone for you: it sends nothing anywhere.
